“Big Spender”, “Rhythm of Life”, “If They Could See Me Now”, “There’s Got To Be Something Better Than This”, “I’m a Brass Band” and “I Always Cry at Weddings”.  Six absolute blockbusters, and all from one musical, and believe it or not there are several other songs that you will recognise and love.  Sweet Charity simply has to be one of the best musicals ever written and with the book written by top comic playwright Neil Simon it is not only highly entertaining but funny too.

This show is brought to you by the highly acclaimed Colin Smith Luton Youth Musical Theatre who recently have been awarded the NODA Award for best musical in the East of England for 'Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat'.  The group also won the Luton News/Dunstable Gazette Award for best overall production 2008 for the same show, an award which the group also achieved for the three previous years with productions of A Chorus Line, Les Miserables and High School Musical.

Sweet Charity is one of the first shows to be performed in the recently renovated Library Theatre and promises to be an evening’s entertainment not to be missed.  Sweet Charity, follows the highs and lows in the life of one Charity Hope Valentine, a dancer and hostess at the Fandango Ballroom in New York City.  The original Broadway production won an unprecedented twelve Tony awards and is still recognised by the professional theatre as simply one of the best musicals ever produced.  It is rarely seen on an amateur stage as it is considered to be too difficult.  However, not so for this talented bunch of youngsters.  With dance routines choreographed by Caroline Fitch who was responsible for the amazing We Will Rock You, still running in London’s West End and the superb band directed by Graeme Weeks (the professional production of Oklahoma in the West End) there is going to be so much on stage to enjoy.

Make sure that you don’t miss this fantastic show, performed by what is undoubtedly the best cast for miles around.

FOLLOWING OUR RECENT ONE-OFF CONCERT...

Dear Stuart

On behalf of the Duchess, myself, Gemma and Hayley, we would like to thank you for a fantastic evening last Sunday at The Grove Theatre, Dunstable. The performers were all outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you for all your hard work in keeping Colin's name alive. He would be so proud of all his friends who came up with the bright idea of a trust fund in his name. The trustees have done a fantastic job and we are all very grateful to you.

Kind Regards

COLIN SMITH THEATRE (SENIOR GROUP)

So many of our long-serving young members have reached an age where they are perhaps a little old for the youth group yet still want to be a part of the Colin Smith theatrical family. Therefore, CSYMT's Stuart Farrar has formed a new Luton society to allow a possible path of continuation for our ex-youth group members, as well as being open to other local actors.

September 2008 saw the debut production from this new group, 'The Graduate' by Terry Johnson, take to the Library Theatre stage. The play, which was adapted for the stage from the hit 1967 film, enjoyed successful West End and Broadway runs as well as sell-out tours and CST were delighted to be the first to secure the rights to perform it locally. With a stellar cast (including three ex-youth group members) and a national media frenzy surrounding the more controversial aspects of the production, it appears that all the stirling efforts of the company were rewarded as we have received an enormous amount of positive feedback from those who came to see it. Read the review here. CST will be presenting another play in Autumn 2009 - watch this space for details!

If you would like to be kept informed of forthcoming ticket availability or auditions for future CSYMT productions, please email us using the link above and we will ensure you receive priority information. Rest assured, your details will remain confidential and will never be passed on to any other organisation.
